Alia Bhatt: I Don't Have The Guts To Be As Honest as My Father
You have won the SpotboyE Salaam for your performance in Udta Punjab. How do you feel?
Honestly, I feel that the Udta hangover is not fading, whether it is in the form of an award or a conversation. Of course, it always feels nice to revisit your film. So I want to thank SpotboyE for this award because it reminds you of the effort, not just yours but the whole team’s, which went into the film.

There were two films which were on everyone’s mind last year, Udta Punjab and Dear Zindagi. Which one is your pick?
I find it very difficult to choose between my own films. Every film is a different experience, especially with two films like Udta Punjab and Dear Zindagi, because they were so completely different.

Dear Zindagi was special for different reasons, Udta Punjab was special for different reasons. So, I cannot exactly pinpoint and one cannot be a big fan of one's own work. But both were very challenging role and I enjoyed doing them.

Which film got you a better response?
I don’t know. I never really thought to compare which film was loved more because as I said, they were so different from each other.

We can compare two films like Badrinath Ki Dulhania and Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania because they are a part of the same series but certainly not Dear Zindagi and Udta Punjab.

Coming to Badrinath Ki Dulhania, did you expect the film to join the 100 crore club and do better than its predecessor?
None of us expect these things but you hope that it will happen because that is the way of marking your growth.

What about Aashiqui 3? How is that coming along?
I really don't know where the script has reached. My sister (Shaheen) is on it along with my father (Mahesh Bhatt). They will be ready when they will be ready!

Who is that one person in the industry whom you can tell exactly how you feel? A real buddy…
Karan (Johar). With him I don’t even have to say it, he just understands, he just needs to see my face. If there is someone whom I can speak to without even a hint of hesitation, it is Karan.

You have said that you don't want to marry late. Have you set a year in your mind?
I don’t set my plans for what will I do next week. So, deciding when will I get married toh bahut door ki baat hai. I think I am too young to even think about it.  I just want to focus on work right now.

Having met you and spoken to you, you come across as someone so unlike your father who is famously frank. Is it necessary to be politically correct in Bollywood?
I don’t know how necessary it is. But the reason I am not like my father is because there is no one like my father. He is a very, very honest man and I don’t have the guts to be that honest.

One thing you want to change about yourself in your profession?
There are so many things I want to change about myself. I think I am very paranoid and impulsive. I don’t act impulsively but I think impulsively. Hmmm... I am a very sensitive person. I don’t want to change that per se but I wish I could control it from time to time.
