First Day Box-Office Collection: Ranbir Kapoor & Katrina Kaif’s Jagga Jasoos Mints Rs. 8.57 Crores
Bollywood’s former ‘It’ couple Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif reunited on the big screen for Anurag Basu’s musical drama, Jagga Jasoos. After umpteen no. of controversies and delays, the film finally saw the light of day and released yesterday.

And fortunately for the makers and the team, it has received a decent start at the box-office.

Trade Analyst Taran Adarsh took to Twitter to share the first day collection figure. He wrote, "#JaggaJasoos Fri ₹ 8.57 cr. India biz."

The film has been in the making for almost 4 years and the audience’s response has been mostly positive. Most of the viewers applauded Ranbir aka Jagga’s detective avatar in the film. Katrina too managed to woo the audience with her turn as Shruti, the nerdy assistant.

The film opened up with 50-60% occupancy in the morning and afternoon shows reflecting a decent amount of audience in the theatre. The film has garnered positive feedback from the audience and is already loved by kids.

However, the film did not impress the critics much with SpotboyE.com’s Khalid Mohamed writing: “Awfully self-indulgent, the writer-director seems to be wasting limitless resources, hare-brained ideas and conceits to zero-effect.”

Talking about the trade pundits, well, they too were not very happy when we spoke with them last evening. Trade Analyst Komal Nahata slammed the film. He said, "I didn't like the film at all." 

“The opening at my theatres has been 90% around, which is a good number. I was expecting a full house, but that didn't happen. The film is picking up on word-of-mouth with each passing show. By Monday it will get clear whether or not it will be a hit," said Manoj Desai, Gaiety Galaxy and Maratha Mandir owner.

Trade Analyst Amod Mehra said, "The main difference between Ranbir's two duds is that Bombay Velvet managed to complete one full weeks run. Let's wait and watch till Monday. I am disappointed but I sincerely hope that I am proven wrong."

Jagga Jasoos is made on an exorbitant budget of Rs. 110 Crore. The opening figure of Rs 8.57 crore, as f now, is a very small amount. Let’s hope that the film picks up over the weekend and gradually recovers its cost.
