Good news for National award-winning filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar.
Actor Preeti Jain has been convicted along with two others for giving money to gangsters to kill Madhur Bhandarkar in 2005. She has also been sentenced 3 years of jail term.
To those who have come in late, the actress had lodged a complaint with the Versova police in July 2004 alleging that Bhandarkar had raped her 16 times between 1999 and 2004, promising to cast her as the lead actress in his films.
She also alleged that the filmmaker promised to marry her but he went back on his promises later.
Last year, a Mumbai trial court, while investigating Jain's complaint, had asked the Madhur Bhandarkar to face the trial. The filmmaker had then challenged the lower court's order before the high court which too had rejected his plea.
In September 2011, the police had filed a report stating that the case against Bhandarkar was false.
The trial court, however, had rejected the police report which had said the case was 'maliciously false.' The court had held that there was prima facie case against Bhandarkar.
And now, the court has finally convicted Preeti Jain in the case.
