Kalpana Lajmi Funeral: Heartbroken Shabana Azmi And Soni Razdan Attend The Filmmaker’s Last Rites
Here are the first pics from the funeral ceremony of noted filmmaker Kalpana Lajmi, who left for her heavenly abode earlier this morning, at 4:30 am. It's a sad day for the film industry
It’s a sad day for the film industry. Renowned filmmaker Kalpana Lajmi who had been ailing for the last 3 years, breathed her last at Kokilaben Hospital. She was 64. “She passed away at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital at 4:30am. She was suffering from a chronic kidney disease and liver failure. She was on dialysis. She has been in and out of the hospital for three years,” her brother Dev Lajmi told PTI.
Her funeral proceedings are underway as you read this. Her family and close friends from the industry have started coming in at the Oshiwara Crematorium. We bring you the latest pics here:

She had been admitted to the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani hospital in April for surgery, after suffering a urine infection. She had returned home from the ICU, when SpotboyE.com got in touch with her. Her voice had significantly changed.
By November 2017, Kalpana’s condition had worsened. Speaking to SpotboyE.com Editor Vickey Lalwani, the veteran filmmaker had shared that she was undergoing dialysis 4 times a week.
In her interview, she had also elaborated upon the celebrities who had come forward to help her. “Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Karan Johar, Rohit Shetty, Mahesh Bhatt, Alia Bhatt, Soni Razdan, Ashoke Pandit, Neena Gupta, Vinta Nanda, Amit Khanna and Shyam Benegal have been doing a lot for me. They are pooling the money required for my treatment,” she had said.

“Aamir and Kiran Rao had come along. Salman has been contributing through Being Human. Soni Razdan is the fulcrum, I think it is mostly routed through her. I need about Rs 2.5 lakh per month. God bless these people. And of course, how can I forget my mother and brother who have constantly stood by my side?” she had added. However, no one from Bhupen Hazarika’s family had extended a helping hand. “I am in touch but with only one of my sister-in-law. Otherwise, I am not in touch with them after Bhupenda passed away,” she had stated. May her soul rest in peace.
