Pooja Bhatt & Sanjay Dutt Reprise Their Roles For Sadak 2

In 1991, Sanjay Dutt fought against all odds to win Pooja Bhatt’s love in Sadak. Now, 27 years later, the duo is reuniting for its sequel scheduled to hit theatres (tentatively) in August 2018.

Reports suggest that  Sanjay will return as Ravi, the taxi driver who rescued a young innocent from the clutches of brothel owner Maharani, at the risk of his own life in Part One. The actress will reprise the role of Pooja, Ravi's lady love. They will be joined by a young couple who are yet to be cast.

Talking about the project, producer Mahesh Bhatt told Mumbai Mirror, “Sanjay, who was 32 when we made the original, comes back as a 54-year-old Ravi into the 21st-century world that is collapsing in front of his eyes, where the distinction between the house and the 'sadak' is fast disappearing. The story has the emotional connect of the films I made back in the 90s' which brought a lump to the throats of the viewer. I could see that in the reaction of those present at the narration. They were visibly moved.”

When asked if he is going to direct the sequel, the filmmaker said, “No, that chapter of my life is over, the page has turned. Pooja, Sanjay, Mukesh and I will decide on a director soon.”

Pooja Bhatt adds that Sadak is her father’s ode to Sanjay Dutt. “Sadak 2 will reflect the special relationship Mahesh Bhatt and Sanjay Dutt share. While my character is unique, and this film like Aashiqui 2 makes you believe in love at a time when it's so easy to walk away from a relationship, it is going to be about Sanju from the first frame to the last. It's my father's ode to him," she asserts, adding that the bigger challenge before them is to find two young actors who are not cardboard cutouts. "It can't be a chocolate-boy hero, we are looking for a boy with a striking personality and a girl who has the emotional resonance of Pooja and Alia Bhatt."

"Sadak 2 is going to bring back Pooja in a dazzling new avatar. And like the original, the music will be its USP. We have already finalised two songs and even as we speak, Jeet Gannguli is playing one for us. It's time to go on back on the road again," Mahesh Bhatt said on a concluding note.
