Movie Review, Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety: Not Sweet For Women, Sexist Film Raises Questions Galore
two and half stars

First up, Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety director Luv Ranjan needs to answer a few questions:

So, a man should marry only if and when he wants sex. Or rather, marriage means sex. Ugh? Since when? Can't sex be had with the girlfriend in today's times as and when both the lovers are willing? Even if I give Luv the benefit of doubt that people in relationships wait until marriage for sex to happen, Luv next propagates: Why marry a girl if you have a male friend who is willing to get laid by you?

Why is the girl who declares that she is the villain at the interval- which in fact sets an open war, not shown that what is villainous about her?

Why should a guy who has seen through his friend's constant battles to keep him away from girls eventually succumb to his friend, that too after his bride has garlanded him (with a mere rubbing of haldi on his face)?

Why should a girl agree to a man's request to wear the skimpiest of bikinis so that his friend (who is her ex) forgets his present love and drowns himself in her curves? Bells ring in her head later, but that doesn't dissolve the question.

So, basically, women are dumb, manipulative and perhaps only sex objects--- depending on a man's convenience at that point of time.

If this is not all anti-women, then what is?

Okay, second up, here we go if you should see this film or not.

You can, in fact you should--- provided you are one of those types who never raised his hand in the class to ask your teacher: Why? Did the teacher tell you that she will answer your query later in the staff room? Perhaps Luv will in one of his interviews in the next few days. Haven't read him talking about the movie at length yet, wonder why.

And you can, and in fact you should--- if you like breezy affairs, fast-paced motions and Honey Singh type numbers.

So yeah you can, and in fact, you should- provided you want to see a stupendous performance from Kartik who should make some headway in his career now.

Go also for Nushrat Bharucha and Sunny Singh who pass the muster, or let's say, are perfect foils to a Kartik driven flick. Between the two, Nushrat is better.

Go for Alok Nath, he is mind-blowing. Throwing caution to the wind, he really lets himself loose in the midst of youngsters.

A question for Prasoon Joshi too: How did you and/or your team close your eyes on that Bom Diggy Diggy Bom Bom number wherein guys breathe down shaking a**es of girls? But yeah, you did your job partially by muting the cuss word ch***** which Luv wanted in the film on at least 10 places if not more (Do I hear your predecessor Pahlaj Nihalani saying in the background: Maine kya galat kiya?)

My feeling when I walked out? Memories of Luv's Pyar Ka Punchnama 1 and 2 came rolling back and I said to myself: Luv takes instances from either his or one of his friend's life while putting his films together.

Of course, there are men like Kartik in our midst. But the question is: Should we make such men larger than life on celluloid and drive home some undesirable messages? Luv, tera agenda kya hai?

An extra half for Kartik. And, I am going with a Two-and-Half.
