DIWALI SPECIAL: TV Industry Takes A Stand, Says No To Firecrackers And Noise Pollution

Many TV actors and producers have come out in support of Supreme Court’s ban on the sale of firecrackers in Delhi NCR. This year most popular shows will advocate a pollution-free Diwali on their soaps.

yeh rishta kya kehlata hai

Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai (Star Plus) producer Rajan Shahi says "I’m not a big fan of firecrackers and I feel that the Supreme Court's decision is a good move. Though Diwali will be celebrated in a grand manner on our show, following all the traditions, we will not have anyone bursting firecrackers this time around.”

Meri Durga
meri durga

Ravindra Gautam, the producer of Meri Durga (Star Plus) believes that television is a strong medium to propagate the right messages. He says, "Personally, I have always opted for a noiseless Diwali and now, the same will be depicted on my show as well."

Badho Bahu

Badho Bahu (Zee TV) producer Dipti Kalwani thinks Diwali is a festival of lights, not firecrackers. “And just as the festival depicts a period of love, light and happiness, we shall celebrate the same on Badho Bahu with puja, prayers and diyas. Personally, I stopped bursting crackers years ago when I realised how harmful they are to the environment,” she says.

Ye Hai Mohabbatein
ye hai mohabbatein

Karan Patel who plays the male lead in Ye Hai Mohabbatein (Star Plus), has been celebrating Diwali minus firecrackers for years. The pet-lover doesn't want his dogs to suffer. He says, "For me, Diwali has been more about being with loved ones and eating good food, rather than bursting crackers. I would request production houses to opt for a noise-free and cracker-free shoot, but ultimately, it's their call."

Shakti - Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki
shakti

Vivian D'sena who plays the male lead in Shakti - Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki (Colors TV), finds firecrackers a waste of money. He says, "As a child, I used to burst crackers, but not anymore, as it's a sheer waste of money. That money can be given to the needy.”
