It has happened only a few hours ago, and we are the first ones to latch on to it and bring it to you. Arijit Singh has quit Star Plus' India's Raw Star.
SpotboyE.com was also the first to get you the news that this year Star Plus had decided not to go ahead with Honey Singh whom they had last year. (Honey's ouster from India's Raw Star is music to Arijit's ears, ).
A source reveals, "The differences are irrevocable. Bahut tamasha hua hai. Arijit is out for now, and as we speak, Star Plus has gone into a tizzy."
A few days ago, Arijit had spoken to the creative team of the show and insisted that he does not want anybody on the show around him who is connected to music. Rumour has it that this time the plan was to get a few more faces from the music fraternity- at least one more- as the creatives team wanted it that way as the show is all about singing. Those who heard Arijit's demand were shocked and had no option but to comply. So, we hear, a few days ago, Shraddha Kapoor (who sings at times) was asked to be a part of the show. We wonder if Arijit liked that too (isn't Shraddha a super singer?), but maybe he swallowed at least that with a gulp. Shraddha, however, has not reverted on the offer till date.
So what happened now? "It's a mystery. Arijit had an opinion on almost everything that was being planned for the show and it would be difficult to pinpoint the flashpoint that brought about his exit," said the source.
Buzz is, Star Plus might not go ahead with the show this year. If they do go ahead, it is most likely to be postponed to a much later date.
We sent a text about this story to Anil Jha (Senior VP, Network Programming, Star India) but he chose not to respond.
Or will they go back to Arijit and request him to come back? "Miracles do happen, but one such is quickly required if Arijit was to return," the source added.
Not too long ago, Arijit was mired in a big controversy over a Sultan number, which was finally sung by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan.
India's Raw Star is an Indian singing competition series created by Gajendra Singh of Saibaba Telefilms which began airing on Star Plus from August 2014. Its first season was hosted by model-actress Gauhar Khan and mentored by singer-rapper Honey Singh.
Composer-singer and actor Himesh Reshammiya replaced Honey last year after Honey was advised bed rest by the doctors following his illness. This year however, Star Plus decided not to go ahead with Himesh and brought Arijit on board.
So, is Star Plus now going to knock Himesh or Honey's door again? Watch this space.
