With no other big release, the film is cashing on Akshay Kumar’s wit and humour. The actor’s turn as an honest but hard-on-his-luck lawyer has been appreciated and the witty banter in the film seems to have impressed the audience. Fans thronged theatres to watch the first day first show, and that shows in the box-office collections.
As expected, the film didn't have a blockbuster opening considering that it didn't come out on a long weekend or a holiday weekend. But strong word-of-mouth publicity has definitely helped the movie’s collections grow over the weekend.
Unfortunately, Jolly LLB 2 ran into a legal controversy in the week of its release. After getting a clearance from the India's Central Board Of Film Certification (CBFC), the Bombay High Court intervened, demanding that four scenes be dropped.
However, after asking the Supreme Court to over-rule that decision, the film's producer, Fox Studios, changed its mind and said it will accept the edits ordered by the High Court. Reportedly, the makers didn’t want a delay in the release of the film.
Besides Akshay, Subhash Kapoor’s sequel to Jolly stars Annu Kapoor, Saurabh Shukla, Kumud Mishra and Huma Qureshi.
Jolly LLB 2 ended the uninterrupted two–week run of Raees and Kaabil, which released on January 25.
