The  actor reflects on growing up in a male-dominated society and why the themes explored in Bandar felt deeply personal.
Ever since the trailer of Bandar dropped online, audiences have been discussing Bobby Deol's intense portrayal of Sameer Mehra — a fading pop star whose life spirals into chaos after shocking sexual assault allegations turn him into the centre of a media and courtroom storm.

While the film has sparked conversation for its provocative subject matter, Bobby Deol recently shared why the emotional core of Bandar resonated with him on a deeply personal level.

Speaking about the film and the world it explores, Bobby said:
"I have grown up in an environment where I have seen this myself. I have sisters and I used to always worry. Unki shaadi hogi, kaunse ghar mein jaayegi, unke saath kaise hoga, unke in-laws... dar lagta hai. We have grown up in a very male chauvinist kind of a world where men have always been a dominating factor and luckily, I have so many sisters, that the fear is always there and I don't take that away by playing this character."

The actor's remarks offer a glimpse into the emotional complexity of Bandar, a film that doesn't deal in easy answers but instead explores what happens when truth, power, fear, public perception and personal trauma collide.

Written by Sudip Sharma and Abhishek Banerjee — the acclaimed duo behind Paatal Lok, Kohrra and Udta Punjab,
Bandar is directed by Anurag Kashyap. Bandar sees Bobby Deol in one of the most emotionally layered roles of his career. He plays Samar Mehra — a charismatic yet troubled pop icon whose life begins to unravel under the weight of scandal, public judgment and a system determined to put him on trial.

The recently released trailer has generated significant conversation online for its emotionally volatile storytelling, morally complex characters and Bobby Deol's striking transformation. Audiences have particularly responded to the film's exploration of fame, loneliness, public humiliation and the consequences of living under constant scrutiny.

Bandar also stars Sanya Malhotra, Sapna Pabbi, Saba Azad, Raj B. Shetty, Riddhi Sen, Indrajith Sukumaran, Jitendra Joshi and Nagesh Bhonsle in pivotal roles.

Produced by Nikhil Dwivedi's Saffron Magicworks and backed by Zee Studios, Bandar releases in cinemas worldwide on June 5, 2026.
