Bollywood veteran Govinda has finally spoken out amid swirling rumours about his relationship with wife Sunita Ahuja, addressing months of speculation over a possible rift in their marriage. The actor chose to break his silence publicly for the first time, saying his earlier quietness only made him appear “weak” and contributed to a “problematic” image people were forming about him.
In an interview with ANI, Govinda referred to what he believes is happening “behind the scenes” as part of a “big conspiracy” and claimed that even those closest to him were being “used” without realising it. “What I’ve been observing lately is that sometimes when we don’t speak, we either appear weak or it seems like we are simply the problem. So, today, I’m responding. I was told that the people in my family might be unknowingly involved, and they won’t realise that they are being used in the initial stages of a big conspiracy…” he said.
Govinda explained that first the family gets affected, then society does, and added that although he has been out of films for many years, that was by choice as he has rejected many films himself. “Please don’t mistake this as me complaining or crying,” he stressed.
Addressing Sunita’s concerns about his project rejections, he implied that she too may be drawn into the alleged conspiracy. “…But she can never think that she herself has been unknowingly placed in a big conspiracy, with her being thrown into the field as the opening batsman.”
Govinda also spoke emotionally about his family and children, saying he prays to God that there be no “misunderstanding” so that he doesn’t feel “suffocated.” “I pray to God that He removes me from this problem, and I also pray for the welfare of my children… I make a humble request, especially to my own family,” he added.
Govinda and Sunita have been married since 1987 and are parents to Tina and Yashvardhan. While Tina debuted in Second Hand Husband (2015), Yashvardhan is preparing for his acting debut.
