Salman Khan's much-awaited war drama Maatrubhumi has reportedly hit another roadblock ahead of its theatrical release. The film, which was earlier titled Battle of Galwan, is now facing fresh uncertainty after the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) reportedly withheld its clearance certificate despite the makers changing the title.
According to reports, the film was initially scheduled for an Eid release on April 17 before being pushed to the Independence Day weekend in August. However, with the certification process still pending, the latest development has cast serious doubts over whether the Salman Khan-starrer will be able to arrive in theatres as planned.
Directed by Apoorva Lakhia and backed by Salman Khan Films, Maatrubhumi is inspired by the 2020 Galwan Valley clash between Indian and Chinese troops. Salman essays the role of the late Colonel Santosh Babu, who led the 16 Bihar Regiment during the conflict. The film also stars Chitrangda Singh, Abhilash Chaudhary and Ankur Bhatia in key roles, while the music has been composed by Himesh Reshammiya.
The project had already undergone significant changes before reaching the certification stage. Apart from renaming the film from Battle of Galwan to Maatrubhumi, reports suggest the makers made revisions keeping in mind the sensitive subject matter. Despite these efforts, the CBFC has reportedly not issued the clearance certificate so far. The exact reason behind the delay has not been officially disclosed.
As of now, neither Salman Khan nor the film's makers have released an official statement regarding the latest development. Fans, who have been eagerly awaiting the patriotic action drama, will now have to wait for further clarity on the film's certification status and revised release plans.
