On the latest episode of Two Much with Kajol & Twinkle streaming on Prime Video, Saif Ali Khan took a nostalgic trip down memory lane, reminiscing about the chaotic charm of film sets in the 1990s. Known for his candid nature, Saif shared that he sometimes misses the raw and unrefined energy that defined the earlier days of Bollywood.
“I miss the ’90s movie sets,” he said with a grin. “Where’s the colourful language? Earlier the director would scream on the mic - Silence, before any shot and throw in a few expletives.”
His amusing recollection had Kajol and Twinkle in fits of laughter, while Akshay Kumar, who frequently collaborated with Saif during that era, nodded in understanding.
Saif reflected on how drastically the industry has changed since then. Today’s film sets, he noted, run with a level of organisation and polish that was absent back then—from meticulously planned call sheets to directors managing their units with precision. While he acknowledged the professionalism and efficiency that define contemporary filmmaking, he also highlighted a certain camaraderie and rugged charm unique to the 1990s.
“Back then, there was this mad energy, this sense that anything could happen on set and often did,” he recalled.
For Saif, those years were not just memorable—they were formative. He made his debut in 1993 with Parampara and quickly established himself with hits like Main Khiladi Tu Anari, Yeh Dillagi, and Hum Saath-Saath Hain. The actor joked that the unpredictability and spontaneity of those sets taught him lessons no formal acting course ever could.
Looking back, Saif’s reflections paint a vivid picture of a bygone era in Bollywood, where creativity thrived amidst chaos, and movie-making was as much about passion and energy as it was about craft.
