Salman Khan’s upcoming war drama Battle of Galwan, directed by Apoorva Lakhia, might not hit cinemas on its originally announced date of April 17, 2026, as the makers are reportedly considering delaying the release. According to industry sources, the film’s shooting and reshoots are still ongoing, and this could push the timeline beyond the mid-April window.
Insiders say that while Battle of Galwan was scheduled for an April 17 release, significant portions of the film are yet to be completed. From February 9, a week-long reshoot schedule began at the Golden Tobacco Factory in Mumbai, and after that, only a few more days of shooting remain. Once filming wraps up toward the end of February, director Apoorva Lakhia will begin editing the new material.
A key part of the delay is not just finishing the shoot, but also the procedural requirement of screening the film before the Ministry of Defence, a step that could take additional time. A source noted that due to these factors, the filmmakers feel they may not be able to meet the planned April 17 deadline. “Salman Khan is clear that such a special, patriotic film needs to be nurtured well. He has told the team that they should not rush and must ensure the final product looks appealing, compelling and cinematic,” the source said.
The insider added that although Salman Khan and Lakhia are seriously weighing postponing the release, a final decision has yet to be made. “Salman bhai is unpredictable; he might still get the film out on April 17 despite the circumstances, but the chances seem remote,” they said.
Battle of Galwan stars Salman Khan as Colonel Bikkumalla Santosh Babu and features Chitrangda Singh. The narrative draws from real events of the 2020 Galwan Valley clashes between Indian and Chinese troops, a topic that has generated strong audience interest.
Fans and trade experts are now watching closely for an official announcement on the revised release plan, with speculation that a later date such as Independence Day could be considered to give the film a grander opening.
