At the trailer launch of O’Romeo in Mumbai on January 21, the film’s cast and director spoke about their experience working together and their journey making this romantic action thriller. The event brought Shahid Kapoor, Triptii Dimri, Avinash Tiwary and director Vishal Bhardwaj together to discuss the film and their collaboration.

Shahid and Bhardwaj have worked together on projects like Haider, Rangoon and Kaminey, and O’Romeo marks their fourth collaboration. Shahid described each project with Bhardwaj as “very adventurous and crazy”. He said that before working with the director for the first time, he felt “very intimidated” because Bhardwaj had already worked with some of the best actors in the industry. Shahid recalled that he asked Bhardwaj why he chose him for the role in Kaminey, feeling he “had done nothing to achieve that”, and he considers himself fortunate to be part of the director’s filmography. He also expressed gratitude that Bhardwaj called him for O’Romeo after seven or eight years of not collaborating.

Bhardwaj, present at the event, spoke about why O’Romeo took a decade to make, explaining that he had been trying to bring the film to life for the past ten years and had never put as much effort into any project as he had in this one. The movie, inspired by Hussain Zaidi’s Mafia Queens of Mumbai, started with his connection to the book’s foreword.

Triptii Dimri, who plays a lead role in O’Romeo, shared that working with Bhardwaj was a “dream come true”, ticking off an item from her bucket list. She said their journey was challenging but inspiring, and she valued the warmth and depth with which Bhardwaj narrated the script.

O’Romeo also features Farida Jalal, Nana Patekar and Hussain Dalal, and is set to release on February 13.
