While we all are safely seated in our homes, migrant workers are walking miles to reach their homes in different states in tough times of Coronavirus. The lockdown has made it difficult for all to earn bread and butter in cities and with no hope left, migrants are moving to their hometown. Social media is abuzz with pictures and videos showcasing their misery. Recently, Anupam Kher too dedicated a post to the migrants as he recited a poem by Shadab Zafar. Shekhar Kapur responded to Kher's tweet and spoke about India's economic growth.
Anupam Kher in his tweet wrote, "Their pain, their misery, their sufferance. Why did it take us a pandemic to feel their agony??Why didn’t we always value them?? Let’s come together to save them. Let’s stand united to help them go back to their homes!! #MigrantWorkers #PoemByShadabZafarShadab." To this, filmmaker Shekhar Kapur responded saying, "Indian Economy has been built on the shoulders of the very people that we have abandoned. Without them, the economic rise of India is an illusion."
Not just this, Shekhar Kapur also shared an image of a mother giving bath to an infant on-road and spoke about how we have all neglected labourers all this while. He wrote, "Which one of us have not seen images like these everyday in Mumbai. On our way to work by road or by train. Everyday. And did we not realise they were migrant labourers? We are all complicit #Covid_19."
