You Wore WHAT!?

Bollywood's favourite designer Manish Malhotra turns 50 today. Happy Birthday! Last year he completed 25 years in the business which means that he's been dressing Bollywood for almost half of his life. Through these 25 years, Manish has given us so many iconic looks that even all these years later, we can't help but marvel at them.

Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995)

Kajol standing in the middle of a sarso ka khet in a virginal white salwar kameez is an image burned into our minds. And wearing a green lehenga choli for your mehendi function was a must for any '90s bride.

Rangeela (1995)

Manish has been quoted as saying that Rangeela was his turning point. The film will go down in history for its witty banter between Munna (Aamir Khan) and Mili (Urmila Matondkar) but it will also be remembered for Urmila dancing in the title track  in a tiny, colourful, cold shoulder dress.

Raja Hindustani (1996)

If Rangeela changed Manish's life then he in turn changed Karisma Kapoor's life too. In Raja Hindustani, Manish gave Karisma a makeover of epic proportions. From her pastel salwar kameez to the sexy red dress, Karisma's style would never be the same off and onscreen again.

Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998)

Manish designed very different looks for the ladies of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. Rani Mukerji's sparkly dress from the song Koi Mil Gaya and Kajol's monochrome saris with dainty blouses have stood the test of time.

Mohabbatein (2000)

We all wanted to attend Shah Rukh Khan's music classes which were anything but about music. I think the appeal was also that none of our teachers were dressed so elegantly in sweaters which they casually hung over their shoulders.

Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001)

For Karan Johar, this movie was all about loving your family but for Manish it was all about loving sequins. When he put Kareena Kapoor's Poo in that backless top, you know history was being made.

Tashan (2008)

Manish beautifully showed off Kareena's size zero bod in Tashan in short shorts and tiny tops.

Student Of The Year (2012)

Alia Bhatt's first film in Bollywood and she already had Manish Malhotra designing for her. Alia's outfit from the song Radha sent many a young girls running to their tailors asking them to stitch 'exactly Alia jaisa lehenga'.

Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani (2013)

This movie is known for its chemistry between Deepika Padukone and Ranbir Kapoor but let's take a step back and ogle at this lovely blue sari with the stringy blouse that Deepika rocked.

2 States (2014)

Manish made ethnic wear chic. No longer was desi wear only for the jhola swingers but now that Alia was rocking it in all shades of the rainbow, you could too.
