Deepika Sparkles; Priyanka Goes Subtle

Awards season is here! Which means that Bollywood gets a chance to pat each other on the back and pretend they are gracious losers. But, it also means that we get to see them all decked up for the red carpet.

You wore WHAT!?

Awards season is here! Which means that Bollywood gets a chance to pat each other on the back and pretend they are gracious losers. But, it also means that we get to see them all decked up for the red carpet.

Here’s a look at how the ladies in B-town fared at two different award functions held on Sunday and Wednesday last week

Deepika Padukone wore a sparkly Amit GT gown which stood out because it was so damn sparkly.

But lets talk about her hair. Everybody went nuts over how shes moussed her hair up so bad but I think its a different style on her and it looks just fine.

Deepika also picked a lehenga sari by Jade. The work on it is exquisite. And lets just all put our hands together and thank the lord that she did not go with a red lip colour since that seems the obvious thing to do whenever anyone wears black.

Priyanka Chopra really thought that orange is the new black. The orange dress is by Toni Maticevski which she wore with Louboutins.

For the other awards show she swung to the other side of the spectrum with a soft Gauri and Nainika gown and retro waves. And, my god! Those earrings! I want to pull them off her lobes and keep them for myself.

For both red carpets,
Alia Bhatt picked Prabal Gurung. The blue one, with the straight hair and hint of leg, feels grown up while the black one, with the messy braid and cool headband, is young and funky. Ill take both her looks, please.

Its great to see Shraddha Kapoor breaking out of her cutesy girl next door image. First she picked a fiery red Atsu number and then a Notte by Marchesa gown. In the second look, the heavy eye make-up is sexy and beautifully offsets the softness of the gown. Smart choices, I must say.

I get that Jacqueline Fernandez wants to have fun with her looks and not go with tried and tested red carpet looks. But can she step on the breaks, please? Because it aint really working for her.

The white Gaurav Gupta number with a sheer panel at the thighs is not working at all. Im wondering how no one was tempted to take a scissor to them. And she could not even walk in them. She literally had to be carried up the stairs. Surely, high fashion is not worth that much of the embarrassment.

I have found the inspiration for this Giorgio Armani gown.

Lisa Haydon is a delight in this blue an unlikely choice of colour, but one Im applauding Gauri and Nainika gown. Love that she let her hair just be.

Then she went to town in this sparkly Rohit Gandhi + Rahul Khanna number with Gucci sandals.

It was peplums all the way for Kriti Sanon, first in Gaurav Gupta and then in Carmen Marc Valvo. But the colour of the second look is to die for.

Tabu  ah! How I love thee stepped out in back-to-back Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla looks. Its baffling how the same person can pick two different looks from the same designer with such different results.

If you told me that Tabu, wearing that jazzy pink anarkali had come to the awards show after the sangeet ceremony of her niece, Id believe you.

And if you told me that Tabu managed to look beautiful in an all red sari, without blinding me with all that colour, Id totally believe you.

Argh! Theres just so much volume on this Amit GT gown. Streamline your look the next time, Huma Qureshi. Also run a comb through your hair. Thatll be all for today, thank you.

Patralekha is really turning out to be a fashion force to reckon with. She experiments with her looks like nobodys business. And Im loving this Vizyon number on her.

Aditi Rao Hydaris got window blinds for her lower half.

Look, its the ghost of the awards past.
