With the award season kick-starting, everyone was excited with the prestigious and most awaited awards ceremonies of the year, to make official announcements of those nominated. Just a while ago came the final nomination list of the films and stars nominated for the 92nd Academy Awards, Oscar 2020. Though Gully Boy didn't get nominated, Indians can be proud as Indian American filmmakers have found themselves nominated for their documentary at this prestigious award. The documentary titled St. Louis Superman helmed by filmmakers Smriti Mundhra and Sami Khan has been nominated among the top list of documentaries.
This is a 30-minute long documentary that will be competing with other documentaries titled- In the Absence, Learning to Skateboard in a War Zone (If You’re a Girl), Life Overtakes Me and Walk Run Cha-Cha. As soon as the news broke of this Indian connect at the Oscar 2020, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap and sound designer Resul Pookutty, taking to their Twitter handle, congratulated the nominated directors. Anurag tweeted, “Congratulations @SmritiMundhra for the Oscar Nomination, whereas Resul tweeted, “Finally there is an Indian name at the nominees list at the @TheAcademy Awards this time....
