Rapper Honey Singh is making headlines for a controversial reasons. A district court in Maharashtra's Nagpur has directed the singer to appear before a local police station to submit his voice sample in connection with a case registered against him for singing and uploading a vulgar song on the internet. On January 27, district and additional sessions judge S A S M Ali asked Honey Singh to appear at Panchpaoli police station between February 4 and February 11.
The court's directives came while hearing an application by Hirdesh alias Honey Singh, for relaxation of conditions imposed on him for travelling abroad by the sessions court, before granting him anticipatory bail on October 27, 2015.
While permitting the rapper to travel to Dubai between January 29 and February 4, the court asked him to appear at the police station between Feb 4 and 11. His application was opposed by the investigating officer who cited that the singer was asked to appear on Jan 25, but he failed to appear. It further added that he informed the same in an email of his inability to appear before the court. "It seems that the applicant is bonafide seeking permission to travel abroad for his business engagement on three different dates. Considering the fact that his presence is required by the police to record his voice sample, he has shown his bona fide by filing pursis for providing his voice samples. Under these reasons, I see no legal impediment to grant permission to him by imposing certain conditions," said the judge before disposing of Singh's application.
The officer also claimed that the singer was not cooperating with the probe. The Panchpaoli Police had registered a complaint against Singh under section 292 (sale, distribution of obscene content) and other relevant provisions of the IPC AND Information Technology Act.
