Telugu actor Eesha Rebba has formally approached the Banjara Hills Police Station in Hyderabad after receiving an obscene and defamatory comment on her Instagram account that she says came from a fake social media profile, prompting authorities to register an FIR and launch an investigation under the IT Act.
According to the complaint filed by Rebba, the offensive message was posted during the promotional period of her latest project and was “obscene, sexually explicit, and defamatory.” She described the wording of the comment as “deeply disturbing, derogatory, and amounting to mental harassment.” Rebba wrote that this type of content not only attacks her dignity as a woman, but also inflicted intense emotional distress and public humiliation.
In the FIR, she explained that the incident caused significant mental turmoil and anxiety and emphasised that such hurtful remarks are not an isolated occurrence. “Unfortunately, this is not an isolated occurrence, and similar abusive comments continue to surface repeatedly, indicating a growing pattern of misuse of social media platforms to harass and intimidate individuals under the guise of anonymity and freedom of expression,” the complaint noted.
Alongside filing the details of the suspected offender and screenshots of the comment, Rebba asked the relevant authorities to investigate the matter thoroughly and take appropriate action to curb the misuse of digital platforms for harassment and obscenity. In her complaint, she respectfully urged law enforcement to ensure that those misusing online platforms are held accountable and expressed her willingness to fully cooperate with the ongoing probe by providing additional information or clarification if needed.
The police have begun gathering technical evidence and are working to identify the individual behind the alleged fake Instagram account as the investigation continues.
