Recently, Salman Khan opened up about his long-rumored rift with Arijit Singh on an episode of Bigg Boss 19. He clarified that the tension stemmed from a “misunderstanding” on his part, and affirmed that in the present day, they share a friendly bond.
According to reports, the controversy dates back to 2014 during an awards show. At the event, Salman was hosting, and Arijit — fresh off an award win for “Tum Hi Ho” — took the stage in casual attire. Salman playfully asked if he had fallen asleep, to which Arijit responded, “Aap logon ne sula diya.” While meant in jest, that remark reportedly offended Salman and triggered tension.
On Weekend Ka Vaar, Salman addressed the matter, stating, “Arijit aur main acche dost hai. Woh misunderstanding thi aur woh misunderstanding mere side se hui thi.” He added that afterward, Arijit continued to collaborate by singing for his projects — “he sang in Tiger 3 and now he’s doing one in Galwan.”
During the show, comedian Ravi Gupta — brought in as a guest — joked that he was hesitant to appear because he resembled Arijit. Salman laughed this off and insisted there was no lingering animosity between him and the singer.
Over time, the fallout had tangible consequences: songs Arijit recorded for Salman’s films were reportedly replaced. One high-profile instance was Sultan (2016); Arijit’s version of “Jag Ghoomeya” was shelved in favor of Rahat Fateh Ali Khan’s rendition.
In 2016, Arijit publicly appealed to Salman via Facebook, asking him not to remove his voice: “Please don’t remove my voice… I have sung it keeping your persona in mind.” Though the post was later deleted, it ignited widespread conversation.
Today, however, Salman insists all of that is behind them. What began as a misunderstanding, he says, was of his own making — and now, the two enjoy a restored friendship.
