YouTuber and Bigg Boss OTT 3 contestant Payal Malik found herself in the middle of a major controversy after a video surfaced showing her dressed as Goddess Mahakali. Wearing a 15-kg crown and holding a Trishul, the look didn’t sit well with many netizens, who called it disrespectful. The now-deleted video, Payal explained, was created three months ago and taken down as soon as the backlash began.
To express her remorse, Payal visited the Kali Mata Temple in Patiala on July 22. Accompanied by husband Armaan Malik and daughter Tuba, she was seen breaking down in front of the deity, pleading for forgiveness. “My daughter is a devoted follower of Kali Maa, so I thought of recreating the look for her. I now realise it was a grave mistake,” Payal told the media, folding her hands in apology. “I sincerely apologise to everyone. I hope no one repeats such a mistake.”
Videos from the temple showed Payal in tears, stating, “Whatever punishment is given to me, I am ready to accept it.” She and Armaan also performed seva at the temple—cleaning utensils and serving food to devotees—as an act of repentance. Clips of the same were shared on her Instagram.
Payal added, “The video was taken down months ago. Sadly, some pages had saved it and are now resharing it.”
For those unaware, Armaan Malik is known for being married to two women—Payal and her best friend Kritika Malik. The trio, along with their four children Chirayu, Tuba, Ayan, and Zaid, gained significant attention on Bigg Boss OTT 3, hosted by Salman Khan, where they were among the most talked-about contestants.
