Celina Jaitly has filed a domestic violence complaint against her husband, Austrian businessman Peter Haag, in a Mumbai court, citing mental and physical abuse spanning their 15-year marriage.
In the petition submitted through her lawyers at Karanjawala & Co., she alleges that Haag repeatedly subjected her to “cruelty, manipulation and physical abuse” under provisions of the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act.
Jaitly describes Haag as “a narcissistic, self-absorbed individual” with a quick temper and an inclination to drink, which she says caused her continuous emotional distress. She claims he insulted her verbally, comparing her to a maidservant, and prevented her from working, gradually stripping her of her career, assets, and financial autonomy.
According to her complaint, the control escalated over time. She alleges that Haag persuaded her to transfer ownership of her Mumbai home to him during a period of personal grief — following the death of a newborn and both her parents — when she felt emotionally vulnerable.
Her plea also states that his abusive conduct forced her to leave their home in Austria and return to India without her three children, who are now living with Haag there.
In her suit, she is seeking compensation of ₹ 50 crore as damages, along with a monthly maintenance of ₹ 10 lakh, and access to her children.
A formal notice has been issued to Haag by the court, and the next hearing is scheduled for 12 December.
