Comedian and actress Jamie Lever recently opened up about one of the most difficult periods her family faced when her brother Jesse Lever was diagnosed with a tumour during childhood. In a recent podcast conversation, she recalled how the frightening health crisis deeply affected their family and changed their outlook on life.

According to Jamie, Jesse was around 10 to 12 years old when doctors discovered a tumour in his neck. The condition was particularly complicated because the tumour was wrapped around delicate nerves, making surgery extremely risky.

“Doctors told us that if they operated, he could lose his eyesight or become paralysed,” she shared.

Despite the serious risks involved, the family decided to proceed with treatment in India. However, the first surgery did not succeed, leaving the family devastated and uncertain about what the future would hold.

“The first surgery failed and that phase was extremely difficult for all of us,” Jamie said. She explained that their lives soon revolved around hospital visits, consultations with doctors, and constant worry about Jesse’s condition.

Following the failed surgery, doctors placed Jesse on an intense course of medication in the hope that the tumour would gradually shrink. Jamie revealed that the treatment was extremely demanding. “He was taking nearly 50–60 tablets a day at one point because doctors hoped the tumour would shrink,” she recalled.

However, after months of medication, there was still little improvement. The family then decided to seek better medical options abroad and travelled to the United States. There, specialists in New York examined Jesse and recommended another surgery.

Fortunately, the second procedure was successful and the tumour was finally removed. Looking back, Jamie described those years as emotionally exhausting. “Those were very tough times. We would never want to return to that lifestyle again,” she said.

Today, Jesse has recovered and is pursuing a creative career as a musician and performer, and the family feels grateful that he was able to overcome such a serious health challenge.
