Actress Janhvi Kapoor recently found herself at the centre of online criticism after speaking out against the oversexualisation she faces in the public eye, particularly from paparazzi culture. During a candid conversation, she addressed the issue of photographers zooming into specific parts of a woman’s body, calling the practice invasive and non-consensual.
Janhvi revealed that she had even spoken directly to paparazzi about the issue, explaining how such behaviour is not only uncomfortable but also reduces women to objects for views and money. She pointed out that just because an actress chooses to wear a certain outfit, it does not imply consent for such intrusive coverage. According to her, this problem is not limited to individuals but is also driven by the kind of content that audiences consume globally.
However, her remarks did not sit well with a section of netizens, who accused her of hypocrisy. Many users argued that celebrities often invite media attention and then criticise it later. Some even claimed that actors call paparazzi themselves and questioned her stance on oversexualisation, sparking a wave of backlash online.
