The controversy surrounding comedian Pranit More’s viral “Rs 370 ki Biryani” remark has intensified, with the Maharashtra Cyber Cell now taking legal action. An FIR has been registered against More, audience member Himanshu Jangra, Dr Sejal Pawar, and others over allegedly objectionable content circulated on social media. Authorities stated that the matter is under investigation and that appropriate action will be taken against anyone found violating the law.
According to reports, the case has been filed under multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, along with relevant sections of the Information Technology Act. Officials claim the content in question includes remarks related to women, consent, and deceased persons that may be considered obscene, offensive, and contrary to accepted social norms.
The controversy first erupted after a crowdwork clip from Pranit More’s stand-up show went viral. During the interaction, Himanshu Jangra narrated a story about spending Rs 370 on chicken biryani for a woman during a date. He allegedly suggested that he expected physical intimacy in return for the money spent and made further remarks implying persistence despite refusal. The comments sparked widespread outrage online, with many accusing him of promoting harmful attitudes towards consent. More also faced criticism for laughing at the anecdote and referring to it as “Peak Gurgaon content.”
The matter escalated further after another clip surfaced featuring Dr Sejal Pawar. During a discussion about medical training, she made comments regarding a male cadaver’s private parts, which drew backlash from social media users who viewed the remarks as insensitive and disrespectful. Following the criticism, More, Jangra, and Pawar issued public apologies. However, the controversy has now moved into the legal arena, with cyber authorities continuing their probe into the matter.
