Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has reportedly moved the Delhi High Court against the makers of Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy, seeking an immediate stay on the film’s production, promotion, and release. The actor has alleged that the project infringes upon his personality rights and could potentially harm his reputation by drawing inspiration from the infamous blackbuck poaching case associated with him.
According to reports, Salman’s legal team has argued that the film appears to make use of his identity and public image without authorization. The petition reportedly states that the project could commercially benefit from the actor’s fame and goodwill while also causing reputational damage. His legal representatives have further claimed that a film inspired by a matter that is still pending before the High Court may interfere with the administration of justice.
The legal battle follows an earlier notice sent by Salman Khan’s team to the makers of Kala Hiran. The notice reportedly demanded the immediate removal of posters, teasers, and other promotional materials related to the film and called for a halt to its release plans. It also warned of further legal action if the demands were not complied with.
Produced by Amit Jani and directed by Bharat S. Shrinate, Kala Hiran has been at the center of controversy since its announcement. While many believe the film is based on Salman Khan’s long-running blackbuck case, the makers have repeatedly denied that it is a biopic on the actor. Responding to the legal notice, producer Amit Jani stated that the action was “premature” and “unnecessary,” insisting that the film is based on information already available in the public domain. He maintained that the story focuses on the Bishnoi community, their struggle, and their deep connection with wildlife conservation.
Jani also asserted that neither Salman Khan has been portrayed negatively nor has gangster Lawrence Bishnoi been glorified in the film. According to him, Kala Hiran presents a broader narrative surrounding the Bishnoi community and real-life events rather than focusing solely on any individual.
With the matter now before the Delhi High Court, all eyes are on the upcoming hearing, which could significantly impact the future of Kala Hiran. The case has reignited debate around personality rights, creative freedom, and the portrayal of real-life controversies in cinema.
