Actress Upasana Singh has come out in support of Shilpa Shinde amid the controversy surrounding the latter’s recent admission that the sexual harassment allegations she had levelled against Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain producer Sanjay Kohli nearly nine years ago were false. Shilpa’s revelation, made during a recent podcast appearance, triggered widespread criticism from members of the television industry as well as organisations including FWICE and AICWA.
While many industry figures have condemned Shilpa’s confession, Upasana Singh believes the situation deserves to be viewed from a broader perspective. Having worked closely with Shilpa on several television projects, Upasana said she knows the actress personally and feels that the circumstances surrounding the dispute at the time should also be taken into account.
Speaking about Shilpa, Upasana described her as “a wonderful woman” and urged people not to judge her solely based on the controversy. The veteran actress highlighted a side of Shilpa that is not often discussed publicly, stating that she has frequently helped junior artistes and crew members during difficult situations on sets.
Upasana further suggested that there may have been factors and pressures involved in the situation that outsiders are unaware of. According to her, while people are focusing on Shilpa’s admission today, it is equally important to understand what she might have been going through when the dispute originally unfolded.
The controversy resurfaced after Shilpa recently revealed that the sexual harassment complaint she filed against producer Sanjay Kohli was false. She claimed she had made the allegation at a time when she felt cornered and unsupported during her highly publicised fallout with the makers of Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain.
Shilpa’s confession has sparked intense debate within the entertainment industry. While several celebrities have criticised her actions and called the admission irresponsible, a few voices, including Upasana Singh and actress Bebika Dhurve, have chosen to support her, arguing that it took courage to publicly acknowledge the truth after so many years.
