The Assam Police’s Special Investigation Team (SIT) has arrested two of singer Zubeen Garg’s long-time Personal Security Officers (PSOs)—Nandeswar Bora and Paresh Baishya—in connection with his sudden death in Singapore on September 19.

Zubeen Garg passed away in Singapore just a day before he was scheduled to perform at the Northeast India Festival. According to Munna Prasad Gupta, the SIT Chief and Special DGP (CID), both PSOs were apprehended today and brought before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court. “Yes both arrested by the SIT/CID today. The team have brought the arrested persons to the CJM court for production,” he told ANI.

Earlier in the probe, investigators discovered a substantial financial transaction—more than ₹1 crore—in the bank accounts of the two PSOs.  Prior to these arrests, the SIT had already detained several figures connected to the case: the event organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta, Garg’s manager Siddharth Sharma, his bandmate Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, co-singer Amritprava Mahanta, and Zubeen’s cousin Sandipan Garg, who is also a suspended Assam Police Service (APS) officer. The state government has since suspended Sandipan Garg.

Meanwhile, Zubeen’s widow, Garima Saikia, urged the public not to politicize his death and called on eyewitnesses to come forward. “I am still keeping the faith, 5 to 6 people have been arrested in this case, but they haven’t spoken the truth yet. I am waiting very patiently. People are cooperating with the investigation team and the judicial system. I hope the truth comes out fast,” she told media. She added, “21 days have passed since Zubeen’s death. Those who were the eyewitnesses should come out. We have lost our icon, our heartbeat. Things should not be politicised in this matter.”

In an additional development, bandmate Shekhar Jyoti Goswami has alleged that Garg was poisoned in Singapore rather than having died in an accident.  As per the “Detailed Grounds of Arrest” (remand note), Goswami claimed that a conspiracy was orchestrated “to portray his death as accidental.”
