Anindya Chatterjee speaks on his journey from being a drug junkie to being clean
If your past consists of severe and prolonged drug abuse, chances are you would want to bury it deep within your consciousness. Not only to forget the entire episode yourself, but never want others to know about it as well. Anindya Chatterjee is an exception. The young actor is surprisingly open about his drug-addled past. Why? Because he believes his frankness will inspire others who are now like he once was, to give up drugs and say yes to a healthy life.

“I was fifteen and a half years old when I started using. By the time I was in the 12th standard, I had already been to rehab twice. My tryst with drugs lasted for a long time, around eight years. When I was 23 years old, I was literally living on the streets. I was doing whatever it needed to support my drug habit,” says Anindya.

Then what changed? “I can’t put my finger on what happened exactly. But at 23, I decided that enough was enough. I was going to give up my toxic habit. Since then, I have never used drugs or any mind-altering substance,” says Anindya.

The actor, who was applauded for his work in Belasheshe among other films, is open about his past because he believes it might lead others away from the darkness. “When I became an actor, I was scared that people will rake up my past. Then I decided, why wait for others to sling mud at me? Why not pour a bucket of mud on myself and come clean? I have never hidden my past because I feel it might inspire others to say no to drugs,” reveals the handsome actor.

Anindya Chatterjee is an active part of a rehab run by his friends. His only ‘addiction’ now are tattoos and his adorable pet dogs.
