Aparna Sen’s ‘Ghawre Baire Aaj’ Screened At Chicago South Asian Film Festival 2019

Aparna Sen’s ‘Ghawre Baire Aaj’ was recently screened at the prestigious Chicago South Asian Film Festival. An adaption of  Rabindranath Tagore’s novel ‘Ghare Baire’, has been traveling to many film festivals and is being appreciated.

Actress Tuhina Das shared the news on her official Instagram account. The other star cast includes Jusshu Sengupta and Anirban Bhattacharya.

The original novel story was set in pre-independent India in the time of Bengal’s partition but Aparna Sen has shifted the story to current time. The story has three central characters Nikhilesh, his wife Bimala and his revolutionist friend Sandip. Sandip has a contradictory nature compared to Nikhilesh, he is more radical and active and Bimala gets easily attracted towards him for this. It leads to an extra marital love triangle.

Nikhilesh is seen as the editor of an online news website with a progressive outlook. This character has been played by Anirban Bhattacharya. His wife is Brinda (Bimala’ name has been changed), a young dalit girl. Actress Tuhina Das is seen playing the role. Jisshu Sengupta is playing Sandip who will be seen as a nationalist leader in his 40’s. Earlier in his 20’s he was leftist student leader.
