Aparna Sen Talks About Why 'Gully Boy' Was Selected As India's Oscar Entry

Aparna Sen Talks About Why 'Gully Boy' Was Selected As India's Oscar Entry
After Gully Boy was the final selection as India entry for Oscar Award, many shouted it to be wrong decision. But Aparna Sen who was heading the selection committee shared her thoughts for the selection of film. Gully Boy’s selection was badly criticized it. 

Aparna Sen said that they were looking for excellent artistic merit. Talking to The Times Of India, she said, “Gully Boy is an extremely well-made film in all departments. The photography was brilliant, the sound was excellent, the acting was marvellous, the production design was wonderful, the colour palette was very good, the music was excellent, the dialogue was extremely well-written." 

Film is directed by Zoya Akhtar, and written by Akhtar and Reema Kagti. The film is produced by Ritesh Sidhwani, Zoya Akhtar and Farhan Akhtar under the banners of Tiger Baby and Excel Entertainment productions.  It stars Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt, and features Kalki Koechlin, Siddhant Chaturvedi and Vijay Raaz in supporting roles. Inspired by the lives of Indian street rappers Divine and Naezy,[6] the film is a coming-of-age story about an aspiring street rapper from the Dharavi slums of Mumbai.

Meanwhile, Aparna Sen next directorial ‘Ghawre Bairey Aaj’ will release on November 15.  It is a modern-day adaptation of Rabindranath Tagore’s iconic novel Ghare Baire. The trailer opens with Tuhina Das introducing herself as the wife of Anirban Bhattacharya. The couple do love each other but Anirban is also loves his work and sometimes takes it very seriously. Jisshu Sengupta is Anirban’s friend who comes to meet him and slowly becomes close to Tuhina. Then the trailer also shows protests scenes which involved all the three.Aparna Sen.
