Argha Deep Chatterjee: I’m biased towards thrillers, says Mukhosh director
It won’t be an overstatement to say that Argha Deep Chatterjee has a thing for thrillers. One look at his filmography and the statement can be verified. He has directed two films, Jojo and Rhodendron, both of which are thrillers. Argha Deep has also directed a web series called Britto, which is a mystery thriller. “Yes, I have a bias towards thrillers. Be it literature or films, I am a huge fan of thrillers,” smiles Argha Deep. He adds, “Thrillers have a global appeal. Closer home, Bengalis are drawn to it due to their inborn streak of curiousity. They are always interested in thrillers and horror films and stories. That’s why so many thrillers are made in Bangla.”

Mukhosh

Argha Deep Chatterjee’s third film Mukhosh starts one midnight, when a woman comes into a police station to say that her sister is missing. As the investigation progresses, the prime suspect becomes a man who wields much influence in society. If the trailer is anything to go by, Mukhosh is going to be a dark and intense watch. “I am fascinated by the dark side of life. There are so many layers to a thriller that if it is made well, is bound to appeal to the audience,” says Argha Deep.

The director is a fan of literary whodunnits, from Agatha Christie to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, from Saradindu Bandopadhyay to Satyajit Ray. What are his favourite thriller movies? “It’s very difficult to choose. But if I have to, I’d pick The Usual Suspects, Shutter Island and Chinatown. I also loved Kahaani and Chotushkon,” says Argha Deep.

Mukhosh stars Shantilal Mukherjee, Payel Sarkar, Rajatava Dutta, Prantik Banerjee and Amrita in lead roles
