Datta: Nirmal Chakraborty Talks About His Long Delayed Film
Nirmal Chakraborty much delayed film Datta shooting has finally started. The film was announced last year but got delayed as Bangladeshi actor Ferdous Ahmed was not permitted to visit India. After which there was changes in the star cast. Rituparna Sengupta is the lead actress of the film.

Talking about the film, Nirmal said, “Rituparna was a perfect choice for the character of Bijaya. We selected Joy Sengupta to play role of Naren and Saheb will be essaying the character Bilash Bihari.”





Nirmal had to replace Ferdous Ahmed with Shaheb Chatterjee.  Ferdous, who was essaying the role of Bilash in the film, was in India to shoot for Datta in April last year.  The film got stuck when Ferdous during his April visit was seen at a political rally where he campaigned for a TMC candidate. Following which the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) blacklisted him from visiting India.  After the incident, the film has been on hold.

Based on Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s novel, Datta is a romantic story.  It revolves around an affluent Brahmo woman and an indigent but brilliant a Hindu young man. This is Nirmal Chakraborty’s first film direction. The star cast includes stars Joy Sengupta, Biswajeet Chakraborty, Rituparna Sengupta.
