Haluaman: It is a huge challenge shooting with kids, says director Abhimanyu Mukherjee
Haluaman is the first child superhero film in Bangla. It features a child hero, a child heroine and a child villain. Haluaman is directed by Abhimanyu Mukjerjee and team. It is slated for release in Summer 2020
Abhimanyu Mukherjee has directed child actors before, in Piya Re and Googly. But he had never directed a film where the leads are entirely made of child actors. That is, not before Haluaman. “In Piya Re there were a few kids. The main character of Googly, my 2019 drama film, was also a little child,” says Abhimanyu before adding, “But Haluaman is my first film where the hero, heroine and villain, in short all the lead characters are kids.”
Abhimanyu has started shooting for Haluaman on 20th January. The young director says, “My little actors are all intelligent and talented. But they are also very naughty! It was a difficult task to manage them in the workshop we had before shooting. I had to scold them regularly!” Soumyadipta Saha and Bilas are the two kids playing the ‘hero’ and the ‘villain’ respectively. The film also stars known faces like Paran Bandopadhyay, Biswanath Basu and Kanchan Mullik.
Haluaman will depict the adventures of a young boy who is suddenly blessed with superpowers. With great power will come the great responsibility of defeating an opponent. Abhimanyu is understandably tight-lipped about details. All he says is, “The boy’s grandfather is a scientist. One day he accidentally drinks a potion made by his grandfather and gets some superpowers. That’s all I can reveal for now.”
Abhimanyu admits that making a film for children is much tougher than making one for a mature audience. He explains, “Adults can appreciate the depth and layers of a film. But children cannot understand such nuances. They will want to see great visuals. So we have to focus on making the film visually appealing to children, without compromising on the story.”
