This day is commemorated on the 10th or 12th in the month of Dhul Hijjah as per the Islamic calendar. This festival honours the sacrifice of Ibrahim, the Messenger who was willing to sacrifice his son as an act of respect just on God's command. But before Ibrahim could sacrifice his son, God provided a lamb to sacrifice instead. And it's because of the intervention of God that a goat is sacrificed each year.
