Javed Akhtar Comes Out In Support Of Nusrat Jahan After Facing Flak For Performing Durga Puja
Nusrat Jahan has been time and again trolled for marrying a Hindu and practicing Hindu acts despite being Muslim. But she has always said that she represents ‘Inclusive India’
Bollywood versatile writer Javed Akhtar came out in support of TMC MP Nusrat Jahan who is facing flak by a Muslim cleric for performing Durga Puja on Monday. Irked over her this act, a Muslim cleric termed her as “anti-Islamic” and accused her of bringing a bad name to the religion.
The row started after she was spotted playing dhak and performing dance while celebrating Durga Puja.
Javed Akhtar took to his official Twitter handle and wrote, “I support Nusrat unconditionally and whole heartedly. Now may I ask you if you have enough conscience and guts to oppose n condemn the lynch mobs and stand up for the poor victims.”
Onir also supported her and wrote, “More power to you @nusratchirps . You have the courage to be inclusive and celebrate God the way you want to. This nation would be much more beautiful if all these gatekeepers of religion were gagged :)”
However, this is not the first time Nusrat has been trolled. Earlier, when she took the oath at the Parliament, she was trolled for applying sindoor on her head despite being Muslim.
Nusrat had replied that she represents an "inclusive India". Notably, Nusrat contested from Basirhat Lok Sabha seat in West Bengal and won by 3,50,369 votes.
