Mitin Mashi: Modern women have identified with Mitin, says director Arindam Sil
Mitin Mashi has collected 1.27 crores rupees at the box office in its first week and is looking at a solid second week at the theatres. Koel Mallick’s act as lady detective is being appreciated. Director Arindam Sil feels that part of the reason why Mitin Mashi works is that modern women can relate to the protagonist. “I had wanted to do Mitin Mashi for a long time.

Mitin Mashi is not just a detective thriller. There are other elements to the story. Woman power is the chief among them. Mitin is a woman who not only looks after her home, but also runs her own detective agency. And she does both with aplomb. Mitin is a woman of today and modern women can identify with her,” says Arindam Sil.

Last Durga Puja, Arindam’s Byomkesh Gotro had done really well. Does he miss Byomkesh? Also, what made him leave Byomkesh and take up Mitin? Arindam says, “Yes, Byomkesh Gotro did exceedingly well. In fact even though it had fewer shows than the other Puja releases, it was the highest grosser of last Puja based on return on investment.”

So why did he leave such a successful franchise? “I wouldn’t say I left it. I had my next script almost ready. But then there were so many people clamouring to do Byomkesh that I felt it was time to take a backseat. Besides, there’s so much more to film-making than Byomkesh. I want to work on many other subjects. And I feel I have proved everything there was to prove, when it comes to Byomkesh,” signs off Arindam Sil.
