Parambrata Chatterjee: I was scared to kiss my male co-star, reveals Dwitiyo Purush actor
It is not uncommon for actors to feel nervous about filming intimate scenes. The situation, however, was a little more complex in Dwitiyo Purush. In Srijit Mukherji’s sequel to Baishe Srabon, there is an intense lip-lock between two actors. And by actors, we mean two men. In fact, the much talked about kissing scene forms the denouement of Dwitiyo Purush. Recalling that sequence, Parambrata Chatterjee says, “I never thought I’d pull it off! To be honest, I was a little scared about kissing a man. I had never done it before.”

Eventually though, Parambrata gave a very credible performance in the kissing scene as well as the entire film. He says, “The build-up to the kissing scene was so intense that eventually it felt like a very natural end to the sequence. I lost my physical inhibitions for that time. Anirban (Bhattacharya) and I just went along with the moment.”

Parambrata Chatterjee feels that Abhijit Pakrashi, his character in Baishe Srabon and Dwitiyo Purush, will stay with him for a long time. “It is one of the most important characters I’ve played. Abhijit is a fascinating and a fantastic character,” says Parambrata. Not many actors in Bengali cinema get the chance to explore a character across two films. Talking about that, Parambrata says, “I am fortunate to have had this chance. At the same time, I’d like to say that I have utilised this opportunity to the fullest. In Dwitiyo Purush I’ve tried to bring out the difference in an older Abhijit. And I’ve got great feedback from viewers.”

Those who have watched Dwitiyo Purush will know that even though Abhijit (Parambrata) is a gentle, intellectual and law-abiding police officer, he is actually a reformed murderer. How difficult was it to play such a character? Parambrata says, “I had to maintain a fine balance between the two facets of the character. Even though he has a brutal past, Abhijit remains an underdog through choice. As with Baishe Srabon, people have identified with Abhijit in Dwitiyo Purush also. He is a relatable character in spite of his gory past.”
