Purbo Poschim Dokkhin Uttor Ashbei: Raajhorshee De’s Paranormal Thriller Officially Selected For The Jaipur International Film Festival
He has waited a long time for this—for his film to reach the audience. No wonder then that the accolades pouring in for Purbo Poschim Dokkhin Uttor Ashbei has left director Raajhorshee De in a churn of emotions. The latest feather in the film’s cap is its official selection in the Jaipur International Film Festival. PPDUA is also part of the Telengana Bengali Film Festival and the Diorama International Film Festival and Market. “Honestly, I’m feeling numb. I don’t know how to react,” says Raajhorshee De.

PPDUA is not Raajhorshee De’s first film, chronologically speaking. The director has almost finished work on two other films, Birpurush and Shubho Noboborsho. However, due to production difficulties, both films had been shelved. Raajhorshee then started working on PPDUA. He says, “I never thought PPDUA would be my debut film. That’s why I had chosen such an experimental theme for the film. I am overwhelmed that it has received such great response and full houses in so many theatres.”

His films getting stalled had taken a toll on Raajhorshee De. He was not in a good headspace, and resorted to numerology and a new way to spell his name, as a way of ushering in good fortune. Evidently, the move has helped. “I am extremely relieved. For a debut director to see the first weekend shows of his film houseful, is a dream come true. Perhaps the film is being appreciated because it’s a completely new genre.”

There is further good news for Raajhorshee De. The film he first started working on, Birpurush, has received the go-ahead. “Birpurush has got clearance. We will begin dubbing the first week of December. My third release, Rifle, is also almost ready. I will start working on my fourth film next February,” says Raajhorshee.
