This is Srijit Mukherji’s favourite Feluda story!
Almost all Bengalis have grown up (or are growing up) with the stories of Feluda, Satyajit Ray’s iconic sleuth. Almost all Bengalis have a favourite Feluda adventure, one that they keep going back to. However, the choice is not always easy. It’s certainly not an easy choice for Srijit Mukherji, the talented director who is adapting Feluda for the web. His Feluda Ferot will see the web adaptation of two Feluda adventures-- Jawto Kando Kathmandute and Chinnomawstar Obhishaap.

What is your favourite Feluda story? Srijit Mukherji replies, “Well it’s a tough choice between Jawto Kando Kathmandute and Chinnomawstar Obhishaap.” After a long pause he adds, “I would say Chinnomawstar Obhishaap. Why? Because it has a lot of psychological layering and a web of interpersonal relationships.”

That’s not all. Srijit points out the other reasons why Chinnomawstar Obhishaap is closest to his heart. He says, “It has a lot of word play. There are sequences in a jungle. There’s a tiger too!” The National Award winning director adds, “The story is packed with a lot of my favourite elements.”

Chinnomawstar Obhishaap, originally published in 1977, is set in Hazaribagh and revolves around the Choudhury family. There is family intrigue and a tiger who runs away from the Great Majestic Circus. It is undoubtedly one of Feluda’s most thrilling adventures. No wonder the Bengali audience is eagerly waiting to watch young maestro Srijit’s version of this most beloved tale!
