Kalank Box-Office Collection, Day 1: Karan Johar’s Multi-Starrer Becomes The Highest Opener Of 2019

Kalank Box-Office Collection, Day 1: Karan Johar’s Multi-Starrer Becomes The Highest Opener Of 2019
Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Aditya Roy Kapur, Sonakshi Sinha, Madhuri Dixit and Sanjay Dutt starrer mid-week release Kalank registered a great opening at the box-office. Karan Johar’s multi-starrer has earned Rs 21.6 crore nett, which is the highest opening of 2019. 

According to a report in Box Office India, till now, Kesari had recorded the highest opening of 2019 with Rs 20.40 crore. But Kalank has broken that record. Interestingly, it is also the highest opener for Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt, in their career, till now.

Trade Analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted, "#Kalank starts with a bang... Emerges biggest opener of 2019 *so far*... Plexes terrific... Impressive cast and hype + massive screen count [4000] + #MahavirJayanti holiday have contributed to a big total... Wed ₹ 21.60 cr. India biz."

The BOI report reads, “The film may have got a good opening day number but there seems little for the youth and mass and it will eventually have to be the families and female audience which will have to drive the film. The real value of this initial will only be known in a few days time though the Mahavir Jayanti holiday tends to give a 25% boost but no big film has released on this day in recent past.”

SpotboyE Editor Vickey Lalwani rated the film with 3 stars and wrote in his review, “Heady mix- courtesan, scared father, young girl hopelessly in love, young man wanting to avenge his illegitimacy, husband who suggests that his wife is the first and last girl in his life and the wife who is counting her last days of existence. Interesting dance numbers by Kiara Advani (who often finds herself in bed with Dhawan Jr) and Kriti Sanon (who puts everything into her item number). But what I missed was the unpredictability in the story. When you have such a big cast staring at you, one is bound to expect a lot of twists and turns like in K3G, KHNH, K2H2 and KANK which take you by surprise. Sadly, that is missing here, perhaps because Abhishek Varman (director) rolls out the story in a very step-by-step way.”

Praising the climax scene, he wrote, “Visually a treat packed with strong performances from most actors. The climax scene, in particular, will remain in your memory for a long time. It is patiently and beautifully shot, you feel for the characters and Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt excel in that frame.”

Well, as reported, the real test will begin in the coming days. Will Kalank also create the record of the fastest entry of 2019 in Rs 100 crore club? Let's wait and watch.
