Tanhaji The Unsung Warrior: Ajay Devgn - Kajol's Period Drama To Take A Good Start On Day 1 At The Box Office
This Friday, we will have two big releases. Ajay Devgn, Kajol and Saif Ali Khan's much-awaited period drama Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior will make it to the theatres on January 10. There is an immense buzz around the film as it has been produced on a large scale with three of the best actors of Indian cinema. Though it will have strong competition from Deepika Padukone's Chhapaak which is releasing on the same day, the first-day box office collection prediction suggests that Tanhaji will have a good opening.

We spoke to Trade Analyst Girish Johar on this and he said, "Individually both films will open well. Tanhaji being the bigger film, bigger on the budget and it also has Ajay Devgn, Kajol, and Saif, it is going to have a wide release. In fact, the makers are also releasing it in 3D screens to ensure that the mammoth they have created, action they have created is thoroughly enjoyed by the audiences. Tanhaji will obviously have a good start. I will set the film on the scale of Rs 10 crore to start with. It is a very good number considering it is a non-holiday."

Talking about the competition between Tanhaji and Chhapaak, he said, "Tanhaji is a hardcore, commercial, action entertainer, based on a historical event taken in the past, so specifically, in the Maharashtra region, it is going to be very strong. At the end of the day, it is being promoted as a period film that had an incident very relevant to Indian history. Chhapaak is a very word-of-the-mouth, metro centric film and how it is received. It is not a so-called entertainer which toplines the big entertainers. Having Deepika front lining the film, taking the issues, I am confident that this film will do well. And there is an immense opportunity and a chance for both films to do well. We have seen umpteen examples of two films coming together and doing well."

Let's see what happens this Friday. Only time will tell who will win this box office battle.
