Thappad Day 1 Box-Office Collection: Taapsee Pannu's Film Does Average Business On Its Opening Day
Taapsee Pannu-starrer Thappad made it to the theatres this Friday. While critics gave very good reviews to the film, this Anubhav Sinha directorial failed to take a flying start at the box office on day one. The film which talks about domestic violence and has a very important and relevant message to share managed to do an average business on its opening day at the box office. Blame it on the release day being a non-holiday or the #boycottthappad trend, the film took a slow start at BO.

As per trade analyst Taran Adarsh, the film has managed to mint approximately Rs 3.07 crore on day one. Taking to Twitter, he shared, "#Thappad - which started low in morning shows - gathered speed post noon onwards.Metros - especially #Delhi, #NCR - registered healthy growth towards evening and night shows. Occupancy should multiply on Day 2 and 3. Fri ₹ 3.07 cr. #India biz." The film is expected to pick up over the weekend thanks to the positive word of mouth and good reviews.

Meanwhile, talking about the #BoycottThappad trend, netizens had got this hashtag to trend on social media because of Taapsee's participation in a non-violent anti-CAA protest. In her latest interview, she spoke about it and was quoted saying to ETimes, "I think personal opinions of actors should not affect their profession and I don’t really think it does to an extent. It takes about 1000-2000 tweets to trend a certain hashtag. Does that really affect a film? I don’t think so. I might have different social and political views from a lot of people but that does not mean people will not go and watch the film."

We have our fingers crossed, hopefully, the film will pick up over the weekend.
