The film has got average reviews from the critics as well as the masses. While some people loved the film, there were others who said the film was too slow paced for their liking, despite good performances from Anushka, Diljit Dosanjh and Suraj Sharma. SpotboyE.com film critic Khalid Mohamed has also given 2.5 stars to the film.
He summed up the film as, “With all its pros and cons Phillauri is okay, a cut above the average. Meet the friendly ghost lady only if you have time, patience and money to spare.”
Phillauri, touted as a fun-filled romantic comedy revolves around a manglik NRI Kanan (Suraj) who inadvertently finds himself with a 'bride' in the form of a spirit named Shashi (Anushka) after he is forced to marry a tree which she happened to reside in.
Phillauri is Anushka’s second home production after NH-10 which was applauded by critics and audiences alike. This is Diljit’s second Bollywood film after Udta Punjab. The film is directed by debutant Anshai Lal.
