As Taapsee Pannu announced the formation of her new production company today, here’s a look at six actresses from this generation who, apart from acting, also took the plunge into production

Gone are the days when actresses were content staying out in front of the camera. This new generation of actresses wants to get into the business side too and explore this industry from behind the lens.

Today, Taapsee Pannu joined the list of actresses who either are or already have delved into production. Let’s take a look:

Anushka Sharma
Anushka was one of the first actresses from this lot of generation to step into production in 2013 with the crime-thriller NH10, featuring herself in the lead. Her production company named Clean Slate Filmz, followed it up with highly critically successful ventures that also proved to be commercially viable like, Phillauri, Pari, Paatal Lok and Bulbbul. Now, she is even set to launch Irrfan Khan’s son Babil Khan in Qala.

Priyanka Chopra Jonas
Priyanka founded Purple Pebble Pictures in 2015 aiming to give a break to new talents and promote regional cinema. They made films in Bhojpuri, Marathi, Punjabi, Nepali and Assamese, including National Award winners Ventilator and Paani. The Sky Is Pink marked Priyanka’s first step into Hindi film production and she even produced this year’s English release The White Tiger, both films featuring her in the lead.

Deepika Padukone
In 2018, Deepika Padukone promoted herself from just an actress to also a producer as she formed her own production company KA Productions. Under that, her first venture was Meghna Gulzar’s Chhapaak that also saw Deepika in the lead as an acid attack survivor.

Alia Bhatt
In February end, Alia also joined the ranks of Anushka, Priyanka and Deepika as she launched her production house Eternal Sunshine Productions, and the very next day she announced her first venture in association with Shah Rukh Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment, Darlings. The film features her in the lead alongside Vijay Varma, Shefali Shah and Roshan Mathew, and will be directed by Jasmeet K Reen.

Kangana Ranaut
After having tried her hand in direction with Manikarnika, Kangana finally launched her production house this year by the name of Manikarnika Films Production, and their first project under that will be Tiku Weds Sheru that will feature Nawazuddin Siddiqui in the lead, as announced yesterday.

Taapsee Pannu
Taapsee is the latest entrant on this list as just only today she announced her new production company, Outsiders films. She also announced her first film under the production titled Blurr, which will also feature her in the lead and will be directed by Ajay Bahl.
