Born as Muhammad Yusuf Khan in Peshawar, Pakistan, he turned to acting with the screen name, Dilip Kumar  Having started from humble beginnings in life, he went on to become one the biggest stars of Hindi Cinema and act as the leading man for over six decades. He began his career in 1944 with the film, Jwar Bhata produced by Bombay Talkies. However, no one had imagined that the young actor would end up becoming the biggest star in India.

Dilip Kumar developed his own style of dialogue delivery, and the intensity that he brought to emotional scenes earned him the moniker of 'Tragedy King'.

He went on to win not just 9 Filmfare Best Actor awards but the second highest civilian award in India, Padma Vibhushan, and the highest civilian award in Pakistan, Nishan-e-Imtiaz.

Oscar winning filmmaker Satyajit Ray gave Dilip saab the title of  'Ultimate Method Actor'. Even when he was the biggest star on the marquee, Dilip Kumar worked so hard to perfect each performance that he is revered by filmmakers, actors and fans even today. who hold him up as an example.

One of the very unique features of Dilip Kumar's acting career is that even after acting in so many films, with so many directors and co-stars, he has never made a cameo appearance. Whenever he has done a film, he has been a central character, with its presence throughout the script.

Today, as the living legend turns 94, we commemorate his birthday by recalling some of his most memorable hit songs.

Just like every year, the star is supposed to throw a small party at his house for close family and friends. Usually, it ends up becoming a big event with the whole film fraternity dropping by to wish him. From Amitabh Bachchan to Dharmendra to Jeetendra, everyone makes it a point to be there.

Now that Dilip saab is back home and doing well after a brief hospitalisation (Dilip Kumar Is Feeling Better, Thanks Everyone For Prayers, Dec 7), we hope to see a good gathering of celebs this evening at his Juhu bungalow.

SpotboyE.com wishes him a 'Very Happy Birthday'.
