Janmashtami is one of India’s most celebrated festivals as it cherishes the birth of Lord Krishna and this day is celebrated during the month of August and September. Dahi Handi or Utlotsavam is one of the festive events celebrated every year a day after Krishna Janmashtami.
As the occasion of Gokulashtami celebrates the birth of Krishna, the festive event of Dahi Handi depicts the mischief Lord Krishna did in order to taste the butter that was stored on a high place. Dahi Handi is observed next day after Janmashtami and it is known as Gokulashtami. This year, it will be observed on August 25 as Janmashtami falls on August 24. For Dahi Handi people come together to form a human pyramid to break the earthen pot filled with curd which is hung at a height from the ground.
