‘Jhund’ Actor Priyanshu Aka Babu Chhetri Passes Away After Drunken Brawl With Friend In Nagpur; Accused Arrested

Priyanshu, popularly known as Babu Chhetri and aged 21, had won acclaim for his portrayal in Jhund, the biographical sports drama directed by Nagraj Manjule and starring Amitabh Bachchan. In a shocking turn of events early Wednesday morning, locals discovered him half-naked, bound in plastic wires, and gravely injured near an abandoned house in Nagpur. He was hurried to Mayo Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead during treatment. 

According to reports from PTI, the main accused has been identified as Dhruv Lal Bahadur Sahu (20), who was arrested in connection with the incident. The police stated that Priyanshu and Sahu were close friends who often drank together. The night before the incident, around midnight on Tuesday, they went to a forsaken house in the Jaripatka area to consume alcohol. A few hours later, early Wednesday, Priyanshu was found in critical condition. 

During the drinking session, an argument allegedly broke out between them. While intoxicated, Priyanshu reportedly threatened Sahu before falling asleep. Fearing danger, Sahu is said to have tied him with wires and attacked him using a sharp weapon.

Residents who discovered the scene at approximately 3 a.m. immediately alerted police, prompting the emergency response and subsequent transfer to hospital. 

Priyanshu was a resident of Lumbini Nagar in Nagpur. Authorities have registered a murder case against Sahu and taken him into custody. They also revealed that both individuals had prior police records involving theft and assault.In November 2022, Priyanshu was arrested in a case involving the theft of jewellery and cash worth ₹5 lakh from a Mankapur resident.  He had likewise faced prior allegations for allegedly stealing mobile phones from train passengers.
